How to apply body glitter spray: where to spray and how to layer it

A glitter spray puts silver on your skin in seconds. Here is how to spray it evenly, where on your body it shows best, and how to build it from a soft shine to full sparkle.

The short answer

Shake the can until you hear the mixing bead, hold it 20-30 cm (8-12 in) from your skin, and mist it lightly over the skin your outfit shows: shoulders, collarbone, arms or legs. Layer it where you want more sparkle, allow about a minute to dry, and keep it away from your face.

Before you start

Pick your spot. Outdoors, or standing on a towel or an old sheet, so the glitter that misses you lands somewhere easy to shake out.
Hair and make-up first. Glitter on your skin is the last step, so nothing gets brushed or wiped over it.

How to apply it, step by step

Give the can a good shake. The rattle is the mixing bead, keeping the glitter evenly spread.
Hold it 20-30 cm (8-12 in) from your skin. Closer than that, and the first burst can land in one spot.
Start spraying just before the can reaches your skin, and keep it moving in one smooth sweep rather than holding it over one spot.

Reaching your back

Ask a friend to spray your back from the same 20-30 cm while you keep your eyes closed and your face turned away. On your own, stick to the parts you can see: reaching over your shoulder points the can back towards your face.

A soft shine or full sparkle

Safety

The spray is flammable: use it away from candles, sparklers and open flames.
Keep it away from your eyes: do not spray towards your face, and close your eyes if you spray near your hairline. If any gets in your eyes, rinse with plenty of clean water, and get medical advice if irritation does not settle.
Do not use it on broken or irritated skin.
Spray in a well-ventilated place, and do not breathe in the spray.
